Choose a stamp by what it must print, the material you will stamp and how you want to use it. Separate the mechanism—traditional, self-inking or pre-inked—from the purpose, such as a logo, address, date or ready-made office message.
Compare the main stamp mechanisms

Trodat explains the integrated cartridge in its manufacturer FAQ. COLOP describes its flash-stamp pre-inked text plate in the EOS system guide. These are different inking systems; do not treat their pads and refill fluids as interchangeable.
No mechanism automatically guarantees the clearest result for every design. Readability also depends on the artwork, impression size, ink, surface and condition of the stamp. There is no universal weekly-use threshold that decides which type you must buy.

These are starting points rather than a guarantee of suitability. Check the product options, impression space and intended surface before ordering.
A fixed date typed into a custom text design does not become adjustable. Likewise, a product described as text-only may not offer artwork upload. Check the actual options rather than relying on the general word “stamp”.
Match ink to the material
Standard office self-inking ink is intended for absorbent paper and card. Glossy coatings, plastic, glass, metal, fabric and uneven packaging need individual assessment. The ink category alone does not establish that a particular formulation will work on your material or in your mechanism.
Contact us before ordering for these surfaces. Follow the ink manufacturer's instructions for drying, cleaning and any fixing process. Do not assume every fabric ink needs heat-setting or that a generic solvent ink is suitable for all packaging.
If you have a suitable existing stamp and ink, test on a spare sample of the actual material before stamping a batch. A faint or smudged result may relate to the surface, pad, debris or pressure. Our stamp-care guide explains the checks.
Check the impression size and layout
Measurements describe the impression size. Measure the available space on your document or card and view the design at that size. Keep the smallest lettering readable, simplify fine details and avoid crowding. Text capacity varies with the model, font and layout.
The Trodat 4927 text and logo stamp offers a 60 × 40mm rectangular impression. Check its personaliser to see whether your own design fits; the model name or stated line count does not guarantee that every nine-line layout will be readable.
Use the stamp-shape selection guide to compare square, round and rectangular layouts. A standard single-colour stamp prints in your selected ink colour, even if the uploaded logo contains several colours.
Consider convenience and future maintenance
For repeated office work, an internal pad can make the routine convenient. A separate-pad arrangement can be useful when you need a compatible specialist ink. Compare the actual products, current prices and replacement supplies rather than assuming one mechanism is always cheaper or lasts longer.
For an existing Trodat 4927, check the 6/4927 replacement pad. For other models, use the ink pad finder. Extra pads in a package are replacement pads, not a way to print multiple colours in one impression.

Common questions
Are self-inking and pre-inked stamps the same?
No. Self-inking stamps use an internal cartridge to ink a printing plate. Pre-inked systems use a pre-inked printing element and their own specified refill procedure.
What should I choose for glossy packaging?
Ask about the exact material and a compatible ink and mechanism before ordering. A standard office stamp may smear on coated or non-absorbent material.
How do I choose a size?
Measure the available space and compare impression sizes. Review the design at the intended size, with enough clearance for your particular document layout.
Can a self-inking stamp mark clothing?
Only choose a product specifically designed for that use and follow its textile and care instructions. An ordinary office stamp should not be assumed suitable for washable clothing marks.
How often will I need a replacement pad or refill?
It depends on the model, design and use. Check the impression and follow the manufacturer's procedure rather than relying on a fixed impression count.
