Man carving custom rubber stamp

Step by step stamp customisation: a practical guide

To customise a physical rubber stamp at Stamp Design 4U, choose an appropriate impression size, upload artwork or enter text, review the visual in the personaliser and check the order details. A separate manual proof is available on request.

Step 1: decide what you will stamp

Identify the job and the material: a logo on uncoated card, contact details on documents or a short message on suitable paper. Standard self-inking stamps suit appropriate absorbent, uncoated paper and card. Ask for ink and setup advice for glossy or coated materials, fabric and other specialist surfaces.

Step 2: choose the impression size

Example Impression size Layout to consider
4933 square logo stamp 25 × 25 mm A compact square logo or short design.
Trodat 4642 round logo stamp 42 mm diameter A circular logo or badge layout.
Imprint rectangular options 38 × 14 mm, 48 × 18 mm or 58 × 22 mm Text and wider layouts, depending on the design.

These dimensions describe the printed impression. Compare more models in the logo stamp buying guide. Line counts and character capacity depend on the selected product, font and layout.

Step 3: prepare the artwork and wording

Where the selected product offers artwork upload, use SVG, PNG or JPG/JPEG. PDF upload is not currently supported; contact us before ordering if your artwork is only available as a PDF. Use the clearest original file available. SVG can preserve scalable vector shapes but can also contain embedded images, so its extension alone does not establish quality. Check the design at the intended impression size and follow the artwork upload guide.

  • Check spelling and numbers before starting.
  • Use clear lettering and spacing.
  • Simplify fine textures, tiny taglines, gradients and shadows for a conventional single-colour design.
  • Check the artwork at the intended impression size rather than relying on an enlarged screen view.

This is an ordering guide for a finished stamp. Upload your intended design and inspect it in the personaliser; contact us if you have questions about preparing the file.

Step 4: personalise and review

Enter the required wording and arrange the artwork using the controls available for the chosen product. Text allowances vary by product, font and layout. Review the complete visual, using the preview checklist, and request a manual proof if you need a separate review.

Step 5: check options and place the order

Check the chosen model, impression dimensions, available ink options, quantity and checkout total. If you have a firm deadline, ask about stock and despatch before ordering.

Our midday despatch cut-off is an aim, rather than a guarantee; stock may need ordering in for the next day. Tracking is added to the order on despatch. Free tracked UK delivery is available on orders over £39.99. Check our delivery policy for current rates, transit estimates and remote-area restrictions. Missing orders and errors receive free-of-charge replacements.

Step 6: test the finished stamp

Try the stamp on scrap material of the same type you intend to use, on a flat supporting surface. Apply even pressure and lift cleanly. Check the wording, detail and ink coverage. If the result is unclear or the order has an error, contact us with the order details and a photo of the impression.

Use ink and replacement pads suitable for the exact model. Follow its care instructions rather than applying general cleaning or refill advice to every mechanism.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need engraving equipment?

No. You personalise and order the finished stamp. This guide does not describe operating an engraver.

Will I receive a separate proof automatically?

You see a visual in the personaliser. A separate manual proof is available on request.

Can I use a PNG or JPG logo?

Yes. Use the clearest original image and check the detail at the intended impression size. SVG upload is also supported where the selected product offers artwork upload. PDF upload and preview are not currently supported in the online personaliser; contact us before ordering if you only have a PDF.

Is an 8 pt font required?

There is no confirmed universal font rule for all products. Ask for advice if small text or fine detail may be difficult to reproduce.
