Choose a date stamp by task, wording and layout
A date stamp prints the date selected on its adjustable bands. It is useful for repeatable records on paperwork and suitable labels, but it must be set manually and checked before use. Choose between standard wording and personalised wording, then compare the layout and ink options of the actual model.
Stock wording or a personalised date stamp?
| Your task | Starting point | Check before use |
|---|---|---|
| Marking a payment-processing date | 4750 PAID date stamp | Confirm payment separately, then select the appropriate date. The impression itself does not prove payment. |
| Recording an approval date | 4750 APPROVED date stamp | Follow your approval process and check the date. The stamp does not grant approval authority. |
| Printing a chosen best-before date | Trodat 4850 BEST BEFORE date stamp | Determine the appropriate date through your own product process. The stamp does not calculate shelf life. |
| Including your own business or department wording | Personalised date stamps | Check the full custom layout, date position and available text area. |
Browse the stock date stamp collection for other standard messages. A fixed word stamp without a date is a different product, so check that your chosen model includes adjustable date bands.
How to compare sizes and layouts
Measure the space available on the form or label and allow room around the impression. Our size descriptions refer to the impression or specified print area, never the casing. Some date products describe the custom-text area and date height separately; check the complete layout before deciding whether it fits.
Choose a readable message rather than squeezing every detail into a small area. A short department name needs a different layout from a logo with an instruction. Our personalised date stamp guide links models to compare. Available colours, text capacity and replacement pads vary by model.
Set and check the date before stamping
- Adjust the date bands according to the instructions supplied with your model.
- Check day, month and year carefully.
- Make a test impression on spare material and check the entire message.
- Repeat the check after changing the bands and at the start of the next day's work.
Ask about the year range on the actual stamp being supplied if a particular year matters. Avoid assuming all date stamps contain ten years of usable dates. An adjustable stamp has no automatic calendar function.
Maintenance and faint impressions
Use the replacement pad specified for your model and follow its fitting instructions. Do not substitute an unrelated pad or ink simply because the colour matches. If the date and surrounding text print unevenly, check the setup and contact us for help before forcing or modifying the mechanism.
Ink, artwork and ordering checks
Standard office stamp ink is intended for suitable absorbent paper and matt card. Glossy labels, coated packaging, fabric and other materials need advice on the correct stamp and ink combination. Test the actual material before committing to a production run. Replacement pads must match the model; check the selected product for available ink colours and package contents.
Where the selected personalised product offers artwork upload, use SVG, PNG or JPG/JPEG in the online personaliser. PDF upload is not currently supported; contact us before ordering if your artwork is only available as a PDF. Use a clear design that remains readable at the chosen impression size. Text capacity depends on the model, font and complete layout. Check the visual in the personaliser; a separate manual proof is available on request. A preview shows the layout, rather than guaranteeing how ink will behave on a particular surface.
Delivery and help
We aim to despatch eligible orders placed before midday, but this is an aim rather than a guarantee: stock may need ordering in. Free tracked UK delivery is available on orders over £39.99. Tracking is added to the order on despatch. DPD zones B, C and D are sent by Royal Mail Tracked 48. Delivery service, production time and transit time are separate considerations; contact us before ordering for a specific deadline.
We provide free replacements for missing orders and errors. For help choosing a model, checking date-band years or discussing a deadline, call 01695 769113 or email info@stampdesign4u.co.uk.
